Student Bank Accounts
Student bank accounts are similar to normal current accounts but they also have additional benefits such as interest free overdrafts. It can be a good idea to shop around when choosing which bank you want to set up an account with and it is important to pick one which will benefit you most in the long term.
Try to resist cash incentives which some banks offer for merely setting up an account with them- it's easy to get sucked in when they wave £50 in front of you but other banks who may not offer cash incentives to join may give you better long-term facilities, such as a bigger overdraft.
It's also a good idea to check the banking facilities available on your campus; most cashpoint charges have been dropped but it's still worth checking whether your bank will charge you for using certain cashpoints, otherwise you might find yourself paying just to take money out.
