Student Freshers Week
You've done it! You've made it to uni and 'A' levels are a thing of the past. Now all you need do is sit back and think of the fun you're going to have and maybe think about some of the things you'll learn, but don't switch off completely over the summer. It's worth thinking a little bit about the course and the college you're going to so that you're prepared for the first day.
Preparing for University...
Once you've been offered a place, you'll receive information about your new course and university. Take the time to read it, especially the guides written by current students who know the ins and outs of student life and can give you an insider's view of university life. It may be worth getting in touch with any former pupils from your school that are now at your future university. Take them out for a beer and get their view of the place and any tips they have on settling in.
Think about the practical things you may need to take with you for the first week. Things like tea and your own towels will always be useful, headache pills can be a good idea (for those mornings after), and don't forget an alarm clock (or learn how to use the alarm on your phone): lectures may start at 9am and you may struggle to get up after a few nights out on the town.
If your university has a formal matriculation dinner, or ball in Freshers' week make sure you take a shirt, tie and jacket, or a smart dress or skirt in case you're expected to wear more than jeans and tee shirt. But don't bother with buying more formal wear, just yet!
