Student Finance
The way in which Higher Education is funded, by both the Government and students, is being changed. Most changes will take effect from 2006, though some will come into force before then.
Essentially, you will have to pay two main types of expenses whilst at university or college - tuition fees (which help to meet the cost of providing your course) and your own living expenses.
The good news is that you can receive help for both, in the form of grants and student loans. Many students are entitled to help to pay for some or all of their fees which currently are paid at the start of each academic year of your course. Exactly how much help you get depends on your income and that of your household and when you start your course. From 2006, no full time student will have to pay for their fees before they start their university course or whilst they are studying. That should make it easier to find the money to finance the day to day costs of being at university.
